Meaning of the name?

I wonder what ALE is/was supposed to mean? It is my understanding that it was initially an acronym but then incorporated into the name Aleona's Tales, right?

The ale-title.png from the original source code released in 1998 reads "ALE presents Clone"

Guess ALE is Lutz Sammer's nickname.

also earliest version used Guile instead of Scheme in One Defun and was for some reason distributed under Artistic License. So AL could stand for artistic license.

Hey, sorry for a belated reply! Thanks for the info! Do you know if there are any places to read more about the project (apart from anything that the Wayback Machine might have archived, that is)?

I advice you to contact Lutz Sammer and people involved with the project early on.
